For me, Amazing Graze had to be my absolute favourite for many years, even before I would have called myself a Christian. I would sing it in the shower - perfect acoustics, and the concept of grace and redemption was so beautiful to me.
More recently, I have discovered some old and new songs that to me speak of the beauty of God's character, desires and creation.
Most frequently played:
- Be Thou My Vision (favourite version by Michael Card, second favourite by Keith Miller)
- Prayer of St Francis, performed by Sarah McLachlan
- I'll Take You There, by LadySmith Black Mambazo (African group with awesome energy)
- Come To Me, by Bethel
- Father and Daughter, by Paul Simon
- How Great Thou Art, performed by Susan Boyle
- O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, by Enya
- Amazing Grace, performed by Judy Collins
- Ave Maria, performed by the Choir of Trinity College Cambridge
I could list so many others... Norah Jones' first album, Cat Stevens, James Taylor... All this music reminds me of so many different things. Road trips, trying to get to sleep the night before my wedding, having coffee in the garden at my parents' house while on holidays, holding back tears while trying to be brave during challenging times, and specific treasured moments with friends, family and my husband. And they all remind of Him, our light.
What is your favourite music? What calms you down? What energises you?
Wholesome, bright, true. Reverent. That's what it has to be to me. Other than that, I don't stick to a particular style.
